Grow as a leader within your role
At a time when more and more is asked of TAs, LSAs and HLTAs, we know you rarely get high-quality accredited CPD. As such, we wanted to make you aware of a new opportunity for fully-funded learning via a new level 3 team leader apprenticeship.
Starting in September 2022, the National College of Education (an apprenticeship provider) and Maximising TAs are running a programme called "Future Leaders Programme: Maximising Impact of Support Staff." Please note this is a different qualification to the existing apprenticeship for teaching assistants which has more of a focus on how to become a teaching assistant. It is also different to the level 3 'supporting teaching and learning' qualification.
This is a fully-funded level 3 apprenticeship programme delivered over 12 months that helps teaching assistants take their first steps in leadership and management. It will provide a set of core knowledge, skills and behaviours that will provide the foundation to lead a team and further careers.
What does the programme include?
- eight online professional learning sessions
- five enrichment sessions from Sally Franklin and the Maximising TAs team
- assessment by knowledge test, presentation & professional discussion around your portfolio of evidence
- support from peers and a professional learning mentor
- access to online content, book club and podcasts
- monthly engagement, off-the-job (OTJ) training and 12-weekly reviews with line manager
- team leader apprenticeship qualification
What does the content include?
- knowledge, skills and behaviours around leadership and management
- leading a team
- an introduction to evidence and research-based learning around the effective deployment of teaching assistants
- scaffolding and pupil interactions
- promoting pupil independence
- the important role TAs have in delivering and tracking effective interventions
- understanding yourself and your role
- planning for your future and your career progression
- understanding how to support others
More information can be found on this flyer.
How can I get involved?
To be eligible to access the qualification you must be currently working in a TA, LSA, HLTA or support staff role and have a GCSE in English and maths (or equivalent), or have gained Level 2 before completing the programme.
How is it funded?
The qualification is an apprenticeship, so funding comes from apprenticeship levy contributions, which all local authorities and most academy trusts pay into.
